Job Overview

Position Title:  Classroom Teacher 
Division:              Early Childhood 
Supervisor:       Director of Early Childhood and/or Assistant Director of Early Childhood 
  
Position Summary:  
Homeroom positions for the Early Childhood Division may include Preschool (students aged 3-4), Pre-Kindergarten (students aged 4-5), and Kindergarten (students aged 5+). Candidates must have a strong passion for working with young learners and possess current early childhood training credentials. All teachers in the Early Childhood Division are expected to work in respectful collaboration with others on grade-level teams as well as others throughout the division. Previous experience is necessary.  
  
For Preschool, Pre-Kindergarten, and Kindergarten positions, candidates must be able to clearly articulate early childhood theoretical frameworks and developmentally appropriate instructional practices that are research-based, current, and include play, inquiry, and creativity as foundational components. A strong understanding of the necessary components of a typical day for young learners is expected.  
  
In order to meet Concordia school-wide learning outcomes (SLOs) and grade level expectations, the teacher carries out the following broad and specific responsibilities across the following domains: Planning and Preparation, Classroom Management, Instruction, and Professional Responsibilities. 
 
Requirements: 
Education 
  • Bachelor’s Degree in relevant subject area.
  • A certification in education.          
  • Advanced degree or specialization training that supports the teaching role, preferred. 
Experience 
  • Minimum 2 years successful teaching in a school setting.
  • Teaching in the subject area and with the age of students assigned.
  • Working successfully with an ethnically diverse population.
  • Working with students with learning differences.
  • Working with students who are English Language Learners (ELL).
  • Working in an international school setting and familiarity with the American educational system, preferred.
  • Creating units of work using Universal by Design (UbD) strategies, preferred. 
Skills 
  • Comprehensive knowledge of the developmental needs and milestones of students in the age group you are teaching.
  • Knowledgeable about:
    • Developing appropriate practices
    • Using a variety of formative assessments, progress monitoring tools, and differentiated learning strategies
    • The content and pedagogy
  • Effective communicator – communicates well with a diverse community of parents, staff, and leaders; proficient writing skills.
  • Highly skillful at using and integrating technology.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.

  • Teach the curricula established by the school.
    • Complete all aspects of the standard-based curriculum for the current teaching assignment.

  • Set continuing professional growth goals and take advantage of opportunities for personal and professional development.
  • Additional employment expectations:  
    • Collaborate with Teaching Assistants/Support Staff in working with or monitoring children and managing clerical tasks. Establish expectations and guidelines for these adults in the learning environment and help them understand their roles/responsibilities.
    • Undertake additional duties that may reasonably be assigned or requested by the Supervisor such as leading student trips, serving as chaperon roles as needed.
