Relevant teaching qualifications and certificates
MAJOR
PGCE or equivalent in Primary education
LANGUAGE

WORKING EXPERIENCE
Minimum of five years’ teaching experience in the Primary years
Experience across two key stages preferred
Experience of leading colleagues to achieve a common goal
Knowledge of the English National Curriculum
Knowledge of the PYP an advantage
Understanding of international or independent education preferred
Strong pedagogical knowledge and understanding

PROGRAM AND PRACTICE
Work in partnership with EYC Curriculum Coordinator, the Head of Upper Prep
English (years 6-8), the Phonics and Handwriting Coordinator, and the Head of Prep
English Language Learning to ensure clarity and consistency in English teaching and
language development across the college
Work in partnership with other curriculum leaders and the school librarian to
promote transdisciplinary learning opportunities in Pre & Lower Prep
Evaluate and develop the Pre & Lower Prep English curriculum, adapting as
necessary, to ensure an up to date, rigorous and engaging experience for Pre &
Lower Prep pupils in English
Support the Continued Professional Development of teachers in Pre & Lower Prep
Ensure the highest possible standards of teaching and learning in English lessons
through collaborative planning, co-teaching, running workshops and organising CPD
sessions.
Ensure department policies (such as marking, feedback, homework, and
differentiation) are implemented consistently
Monitor the progress of Pre & Lower Prep pupils in English through effective data
management and timely intervention
Promote co-curricular engagement through Pre & Lower Prep CCAs, competitions
and special events (such as World Book Day)
