Language Support Specialist – Avenues Shenzhen

Position: Language Support Specialist, Grades T-12

Avenues Shenzhen provides a unique early childhood program, and is now expanding to serve students in all grades from grades from toddler through 12. WHAT YOU’LL DO

English support classes are meant to work together with classroom and specialist teachers, supporting students who have any difficulty with the expected level of English. You will also:

• Ensure that students achieve key learning outcomes, targeting instruction to address individual needs
• Successfully support students’ remedial linguistic needs in all grade levels, through a variety of different well-planned and evidence-based strategies
• Build a learning atmosphere that leads students to feel part of a rigorous but joyful learning community
• Collaborate intensively with colleagues to design interdisciplinary projects and continually deepen student learning
• Inspire trust and confidence among parents and families

WHAT YOU BRING

English support teachers at Avenues bring all or most of the following:

• A deep understanding of language development and all the nuances involved to be able to target specific support to different students, at different levels
• A strong ability to develop students into passionate, curious and skillful readers and writers, by engaging them in interesting, meaningful and challenging work
• Experience teaching English as an additional language or English  literacy with clear evidence of student learning and growth
• Profound commitment to ensuring and nurturing children’s wellbeing
• Highly effective collaborator, eager to listen deeply, contribute to a team and achieve goals together
• Dedication to learning and developing the craft of teaching
• Very resourceful and adaptive, eager to embrace constant change, growth and learning
• Bachelor’s degree; graduate degree in education or related field is ideal
• Native-level proficiency in English, fluency in Mandarin is a plus
