A teacher shall carry out the professional duties of a teacher as circumstances may require under the direction of the Co Principals.
Professional Duties
1. Teaching and Learning
(a) Formally plan and prepare courses and lessons that relate to the relevant standards from the English National Curriculum;
(b) Save digital copies of all curriculum materials in specified formats to the school’s database;
(c) Integrate technology as appropriate into lessons and Units of work to support and improve student learning;
(d) Teach students according to their educational needs, including the setting and grading of work to be carried out by the students in the school;
(e) Assess, record and report on the development, progress and attainment of students;
(f) Provide cover for other teachers on occasions, as and when necessary;
(g) Provide reports, oral and written assessments on a regular basis, and references as and when required.
2. Other activities
(a) Promote the general progress and well-being of individual students assigned;
(b) Attend to the personal and social needs of students;
(c) Communicate with parents through the Parent-School Liaison Office as and when necessary;
(d) Communicate with persons or bodies outside the school through the Academic Office if necessary;
(e) Attend all meetings for the purposes described above, such as Year Level meetings, Primary meetings and whole school meetings;
(f) Develop the holistic nature of student learning by actively contributing to the after-school activities program;
3. Training and development
(a) Review the teaching methodology and curricula being adopted as and when required;
(b) Participate in training and professional development organized by the Foundation and the school;
(c) Stay up to date with technology and curriculum developments and select some areas for personal professional development;
(d) Play an active role in the ongoing process of school improvement by participating in self selected school committee/s;
4. Educational methods
Collaborate with other teachers, the relevant Head of Year, the Primary Head of Academics and the Primary Head of Student Life in the preparation and development of courses of study, teaching programs, methods of teaching and assessment, and pastoral arrangements, whilst respecting the letter and the spirit of all joint decisions.
5. Discipline, health and safety
Maintain good order and discipline among the pupils and safeguarding their health and safety both when they are authorized to be on the school premises and when they are engaged in authorized school activities elsewhere;
6. Administration
(a) To take part, if required, in the review, development and management of activities related to the curriculum.
(b) Attend assemblies, register the attendance of students and supervise students, whether these duties are to be performed before, during or after school sessions (includes the supervision of students as per the duty roster.)
