The University Guidance Counsellor is a pivotal figure in the school community, integral to the student journey by implementing a comprehensive university and careers program. This role serves as a bridge between relevant departments, ensuring a deep understanding of each student’s ambitions, abilities, and goals, which is critical for supporting both students and families with career, university, and post-secondary planning. The counsellor’s mission is to assist students in discovering their ‘best fit’ for the future. They achieve this by offering personalized services during transitional periods, contributing to the professional development of teachers, and conducting informative workshops for parents. Through these efforts, the University Guidance Counsellor becomes an essential contributor to the student’s educational experience and success.

We are in search of an experienced candidate for the position of University and Career Counsellor. The ideal candidate should possess specialized knowledge and experience in the relevant field, have a profound understanding of the university application process within an international education context, and be capable of offering personalized guidance. Moreover, they should demonstrate a genuine passion for student development.

Zhuhai is one of several Special Economic Zones in mainland China and is undergoing significant development, including Hengqin Island, part of an education and technology hub in South China’s Greater Bay Area. Macau is just minutes away and Hong Kong is a one-hour ferry or bus ride over the new Zhuhai-Macau Bridge.

Zhuhai is well positioned for flights within China and to Southeast Asia, and its high standard of living and warm temperate climate make it an excellent place to pursue an international teaching career.
Duties and Responsibilities

To Students:
• Help students and families aspire realistically and choose their destination wisely.
• Do all that they legitimately and honestly can to ensure each student’s college application is successful.
• Educate students about universities, academic majors & programs, the admissions process, trends, procedures, and admission testing.
• Delivering University and Careers Counseling lessons to each year group.
• Provide an individualized counselling service for students in Year 10 – Year 13 which should include advice on academic pathways.
• Maintain accurate and up to date records on students, including external exam results, internal Progress Report data and transcripts.
• Write an official school recommendation or reference for each Year 13 student in the caseload.
• Support students with their online application process and applications and preparation for universities worldwide.
• Support the clearing and final admissions process for students during the summer.
• Align with the students’ schedules to ensure that the necessary support and assistance are provided during their time at school.
• Planning and Organizing Work Experience Week Year 12.
• Providing Career choices and career exploration and planning supports to students.

To Parents:
• Organize events and programs for students’ & parents’ activities like Career Talks, and Parents Academy.
• Provide information to parents on higher education systems and their application.
• Offer one on one meetings with parents to discuss about their children’s university preparation and application plan.

To Staff:
• Keep teachers informed of the university application process and the tasks expected of them. Train teachers on writing teacher recommendation letter and Provide explanation on the functions of various scores for university application.
• Work closely with teaching teams on IGCSE and A-Level courses selection.
• Collect A-Level predicted grades and Report to universities.

To School Community:
• Contribute fully to the wider life of the school as well as the co-curricular activity program.
• Maintain an accurate and up to date record of admission decisions, statistics, and relevant university application and counseling related data.
• Any other duties as instructed by the Line Manager.

To Wider University Counselling Community:
• Represent the school in the best possible light and boost its profile in the higher education community.
• Encourage admissions representatives to visit the campus and facilitating meetings between university representatives and our students.
• Liaise with University Counsellors from across the Dulwich network to improve provision and best practices across the Dulwich group.

Post-holder Qualifications, Experience
THE SUCCESSFUL CANDIDATE

• Bachelor’s degree in relevant subject area
• Master’s degree an advantage
• Minimum 3 years’ experience in similar filed.
• Familiarity with and understanding of recent developments in higher education.
• At least two years successful experience in an international school setting.
• Strong understanding and knowledge of the admission system to colleges, especially in the Us and UK but also in Canada, Australia, Korea, Hong Kong and other European and Asian popular with students.
• Understanding of and experience working with non-native English-speaking students and parents.
• Complete fluency in English (equivalent to mother tongue), Bi-lingual is preferred.
• Organizational and management skills in education and classroom settings.
• Possess a flexible approach to work and a willingness to work beyond school hours when need to meet deadlines.
• Ability to work well in teams.
