Job Title: Chemistry Teacher & MYP Coordinator

 

Job Description:

We are seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic educator to take on the dual role of MYP Coordinator and Chemistry Teacher. This position involves leading the International Baccalaureate Middle Years Program (MYP) while delivering engaging Chemistry instruction to secondary students. The ideal candidate will be instrumental in maintaining our identity as an IB World School and ensuring a high-quality educational experience for all students enrolled in the MYP.

 

Key Responsibilities:

 

  • Lead the coordination and ongoing development of the IB Middle Years Program, ensuring alignment with IB standards while delivering captivating Chemistry lessons.
  • Design and implement inquiry-based Chemistry lessons that promote scientific literacy and critical thinking, in accordance with MYP framework requirements.
  • Collaborate with colleagues across various subjects to foster interdisciplinary teaching and unit planning, integrating MYP elements such as global contexts and conceptual understanding.
  • Manage the MYP assessment process and oversee the implementation of the Personal Project, while keeping thorough program records and supporting professional development for teaching staff.
  • Create an inclusive learning environment that emphasizes scientific inquiry and laboratory safety, regularly assessing student progress and adapting instructional methodologies to accommodate diverse learning needs.
  • Handle administrative responsibilities related to the MYP, including curriculum documentation, communication with the IB, and student data management, all while fulfilling teaching duties.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

 

  • A Bachelor’s degree or higher in Chemistry, Science Education, or a related field, accompanied by a recognized teaching qualification (e.g., PGCE, BEd, MEd).
  • A minimum of 5 years of full-time teaching experience in MYP or secondary science/chemistry, with a demonstrated track record of leadership experience within IB Programs.
  • A strong understanding of the IB MYP framework and assessment criteria, with the ability to effectively integrate program coordination with classroom instruction.
  • Exceptional ability to juggle multiple priorities while upholding teaching excellence and providing effective program leadership.

General Requirements for International Teaching Positions

  • Minimum Bachelor’s Degree in relevant subject area
  • A recognized teaching qualification (e.g. BEd, PGCE)
  • Minimum two years’ experience of classroom teaching in mainstream education sector
  • Previous experience of teaching the IB curriculum is preferred, high potential candidates without IB experience might be considered
  • Well-versed in various teaching resources including digital tools to support and enhance teaching and learning
  • Sensitivity to the cultural differences
  • A willingness to actively participate in the academic enrichment and co-curricular programmes
