【Elementary School】【Definite】EAL Teacher
1. Role Purpose The EAL Teacher works as a key member of the Elementary School team to support students whose first language is not English. The primary goal is to help these students develop the language proficiency necessary to succeed in a mainstream IB Primary Years Programme (PYP) classroom.
2. Core Responsibilities

Instruction & Support: Provide specialized English language instruction through both “push-in” (supporting within the mainstream classroom) and “pull-out” (small group intensive sessions) models.

Assessment & Monitoring: Use assessment tools (such as WIDA) to determine students’ language levels, track their progress, and adjust teaching strategies accordingly.

Collaboration: Work closely with homeroom teachers and grade-level teams to differentiate the curriculum and ensure EAL students can access the learning material.

Parent Communication: Maintain regular contact with parents regarding their child’s language development and provide guidance on how to support learning at home.

Curriculum Development: Contribute to the development and refinement of the EAL program and the broader PYP curriculum at BCIS.
3. Key Requirements

Education: A Bachelor’s degree in Education, Linguistics, or a related field.

Certification: Valid teaching license and a recognized EAL/ESL/TESOL qualification.

Experience: Previous experience teaching EAL at the elementary level, ideally within an IB PYP or international school environment.

Skills: Strong interpersonal skills, cultural sensitivity, and the ability to use technology to enhance language learning.
4. Expectations The teacher is expected to embody the BCIS mission (Challenge, Empower, Inspire) and participate in the wider school community, including leading after-school activities (ASAs) and attending professional development sessions
