OBJECTIVES

 

A well-qualified teacher of English Language, with at least two years’ experience of teaching at Senior / High School level (UK Key Stages 3-5 or equivalent).

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

 

Curriculum:

  • To teach English Language within the English department
  • To work with the Head of English and other staff on the development of schemes of work, helping to build opportunities for:
    • – Ensuring progression
    • – Active learning
    • – Assessment for learning
    • – Meeting the needs of all learners
    • – ICT
    • – Enrichment and external links

Learning:

  • To maintain up-to-date records of student progress across all aspects of performance
  • To ensure that your students make good or outstanding progress in English
  • To deal effectively with behavior, attendance and punctuality issues

 

Assessment:

  • To carry out the regular assessment and marking of students’ work, according to
  • to the departmental and whole school assessment and marking policy
  • To keep records of student attainment and progress
  • To monitor student achievement against school and national data at individual
  • student and teaching group level, and to take action to improve achievement and address identified under achievement
  • To carry out assessment and feedback

 

BASIC QUALIFICATION

 

Education: 

  • Bachelor’s degree from a recognised university.
  • Formal teacher training qualification (e.g., PGCE, B.Ed., or equivalent).

 

Major: English Language, Applied Linguistics, Education, or a related field

Language: Excellent command of written/spoken English

Working experience: A minimum of two years of teaching experience

in teaching ELA/English.

EXPERTISE

  • Demonstrated track record of preparing students for national and/or international examinations (e.g., IGCSE, A-Level, SAT, TOEFL, IELTS).
  • Experience in curriculum design and implementation for senior school English.
  • Strong understanding of language acquisition and pedagogy for adolescents.
  • Familiarity with differentiated instruction strategies for diverse learning needs.
  • Proficiency in assessment strategies, both formative and summative.
  • Proficiency in using digital learning platforms (Microsoft Teams, etc.) and multimedia tools for language instruction.

 

PREFERRED APTITUDES

  • Excellent command of written and spoken English.
  • Ability to integrate modern educational technology into teaching practice.

  • Ability to develop cross-disciplinary projects linking English with other subjects (e.g., History, Geography, and Drama).
  • Experience teaching in international school settings or multicultural classrooms.
  • Training and/or certification in ESL/EFL teaching (e.g., CELTA, DELTA, TESOL).
  • Experience organising or leading extracurricular activities such as debate clubs, drama, or literary societies.
