Position Overview:
The heart of Huitong School’s philosophy is our belief that all children are naturally curious, born to be great thinkers and form meaning from interactions with family, peers, teachers, and the community. The Science Teacher’s primary responsibility is the support the social, emotional, physical, and intellectual development of each child in alignment with Huitong’s mission and vision. At Huitong our core interdisciplinary academic experiences rigorously connect mastery to inquiry-based project work. Through individual and group projects, our core courses connect knowledge to problem-solving, presentation, and performance—making learning “sticky,” or more permanent. The Science Teacher collaborates with other subjects to design interdisciplinary projects, personalize learning experiences to meet children’s current understanding of literacy and numeracy and incorporate student interests.
Responsibilities:
We believe all children are naturally curious and born to be great thinkers, forming meaning from interactions with family, peers, teachers, and the community. Core responsibilities of all Campus faculty members are organized loosely by the four program areas of the Huitong Ideal Candidate: (1) Core Curriculum, (2) Global Perspectives, (3) Personalized Pathways, and (4) Beyond the Core as well as those responsibilities expected as a member of a collaborative, professional learning community.
The Science teacher is one of the four core teachers for classes. They are responsible for planning, instruction, and assessment of hands-on science and technology content. Science Teachers are expected to be familiar with basic science knowledge and can plan and execute engaging, comprehensive Science units that correlate with Huitong’s Learning Outcomes scope and sequence. Science teachers are responsible for quarterly reporting of grades to demonstrate students’ mastery, incorporating both project-based achievements and their accomplishments according to the fundamental skills and content of the curriculum.
All teachers are also responsible for the overall growth and well-being of each child in their classes, through advisory, parental communication, and the day-to-day building of personal relationships.
Requirements:

The following are highly desirable qualifications for the listed position:
• Bachelor’s degree in a specific field or postgraduate work in the subject matter required
• Master’s level degree or above in content area preferred
• Linguistic proficiency in English is a must
• Minimum 3 years of teaching experience in project-based learning, preferably in an independent school environment
• Participates in professional learning communities, grade-level teams, and other collaborative communities to design and plan instructions, improve practice, and achieve student outcomes
• Teaching License or certification in the area of expertise
