King’s is an inclusive international school open to qualifying students of all backgrounds, though the majority are Chinese. We have had a successful Pre-Prep school for Early Years since 2019, and now with the opening of our Primary and Secondary campus in Autumn 2022, we are looking to expand our teaching and leadership provision in our Prep and Senior Schools. Currently, we only have students to Grade 10 (UK Year 11), but as from next year we shall begin our A Level programme and be looking to expand our numbers considerably.
We believe in a very active pedagogy through which our students will be engaged physically in the learning process. We also recognise the importance of a wide curriculum which encourages brain growth, problem solving and flexibility of thought. Our policy with younger students is never to prevent or inhibit their cognitive and conceptual development by forcing them to use English in every situation. Students with strong cognitive and linguistic skills more easily learn and understand the nuances of a second language. The main language used throughout the day at school is English and ensuring our students’ development in the English language is an important priority, especially as UK English will be needed to access the Senior School International GCSE and A Level programmes.
Our teachers should be used to working with students for whom English is not a first language; they should ideally have a suitable prior qualification in this area, but, more important, they should have relevant experience. In addition, this role requires an English degree with a strong grounding in English literature. Ideally, the successful applicant can contribute to the teaching another subject, help with the IGCSE Global Perspectives course, the Cambridge IPQ, or help with preparing pupils for University Admissions.
Senior School English focuses upon delivering the following IGCSEs and A Levels, together with IELTS qualifications as required:
- IGCSE English as a First Language
- IGCSE English as a Foreign Language (taken by most of our students)
- AS/A Level English – Language – 9093
- AS/A Level English – Literature – 9695
